An Exploration from Tango to… Sewing

with Maria Filali

Thursday 21 February 2019, 7.30 pm (door opens 7.15 pm)

…in search of a feeling of unity between mind and body, between awareness and intuition, and in order to find a harmonious feeling of ‘being in the present’, Maria Filali will be sharing how her personal exploration over the years developed, her thoughts and conclusions so far.

Maria is a remarkable tango professional performing and teaching all over the world. However, over the years, she has explored many disciplines involving body and mind – sometimes for many years, others for only a few months- but always in search of a higher SENSE of things. This includes an academic education in dance during childhood and young adult life :Classical, then folklore, mordern, contemporary dance. Later Feldenkrais, acting, singing, yoga, tango, gyrotonic and many others – and always accompanying her… sewing!

This talk will explore bridges between apparently very different disciplines and what unifies them. Allowing oneself to « work » between conscious and unconscious creating a link between body and mind, between invisible and visible finally resulting in a feeling of being ALIGNED in one’s everyday life.

*Please note this is a women’s only event.

Time: 7.30 pm (door opens 7.15)

Contribution: Early-bird price (available until 14 February): £11 (£10 full time students and OAP)

Full price (from 14 February onwards): £12 (11 full time students and OAP)

Openness and connection. If you had to pick two words to summarize Maria Filali’s personal and professional career, these would fit. A connection between dance and other body-centered disciplines. A connection between Argentine tango and other arts, including theater, opera, film, video, and contemporary dance. And a connection with exceptional, internationally renowned partners.

Maria is a classically trained dancer who chose to make tango the focus of her career twenty years ago. She regularly performs and teaches at international tango events and festivals all over the world. She is also completing a training course in Gyrotonic, a body-centered discipline that will serve to further enrich her tango teaching.Through her personal life and professional career, Maria continues to pursue her priorities, namely being open-minded, striving to be an excellent artist and teacher, and cultivating meaningful relationships with others.

A series of regular events for women, a space to get informed, be inspired and feel connected. Maya Meetings start with a talk or a workshop featuring a guest speaker, an expert or a mentor. Then the evening continues as a relaxed social get-together, an opportunity for the group to connect.
